I am working on some health wrangling right now. Not necessarily that there’s anything specific wrong or going amiss, but two major components are in play.
- I have not been to the gym since February
- I am intently focusing on reeling in alcoholic consumption with binge tendencies.
Gym time
With a recent job change, I am viewing the events as a potential opportunity to shift routines around and hopefully re-establish gym time.
At the moment, I am considering myself “trainer-less” and that’s all on good terms. No ill will there. That said, some amount of programming is lacking. Within my social media consumption especially in the health spaces, I have known about a keto/carnivore trainer named Greg, and not long ago he published some resources about building your own split.
I have gone ahead and purchased it, and have worked through the details one time, for a 2 day a week split. However, I also want to re-work a 3 day a week version, just to see where things land there. I am used to the “upper/lower/core”-ish style routines after all. I know he offers online consulting, and am probably going to buy at least a one time deal to get his thoughts and see how he’d guide a given split.
Along with that, on the mental/goals side of things, I’m re-reading “Body Confident” by Bronson Dant to re-align myself with the details, and the proverbial “why?”s of working on your physical health.
Abstinence
In short, I’m working on giving up alcohol as a whole. I have come to accept that I don’t do moderation, and if I’m consuming, it’s too much. So instead I’m just saying no. My head is rationalizing that this is a gift I’m trying to give myself for my 43rd birthday, given that the last time I had anything was the 18th. Convenient timer can be found at https://krakenfitnesstavern.me/clean/ and if I happen to slip up at some point, I’ll reset that timer.
As part of this process, I have begun weekly 36hr fasts. So far, they’ve been 9pm Friday through to 9am Sunday. This is one of my ways of working to reject temptations.
One thing I’m looking forward to with these is doing a new InBody body scan on September 18th or so, to get an idea of how much the alcohol was having an effect on things. Because I am only wanting to change one variable with that, I’m not adding in any renewed gym time or cardio or anything yet. Still trying to eat the way I typically have been, and otherwise go about normal routines. We’ll see how the results turn out.
