What is the 1000 pound club?

To join this club, you must achieve combined one rep max of 1,000 pounds in the squat, bench press, and deadlift.

According to my personal records page, I’m not THAT far off, and the squat had more than 1 rep for them.

By my numbers, I’m seeing:

  • 250lb bench
  • 285lb deadlift
  • 200lb squat

This totals up to 735lbs out of the needed 1000lb. I’m using this strengthchallenges.com page as not some sort of grand official rules page, but one that looks like a pretty solid guide.

Some notes, is that I know last time I attempted to meet my bench PR, I struggled and didn’t make it, so that’s one I’d need to work on getting up again.

Thankfully the strengthchallenges website allows for safety bar squat, as I do have odd shoulder issues and that bar worked well today.

Deadlifts, I just haven’t tried to go that heavy lately. I think I could pull some solid amount up, and probably get to 300lbs at least soon.

Not quite sure how I’d want to split the 3 up at this point. If you read through the Mens Health link in the pull quote, you’d have noticed that Hugh Jackman joined with a 355-pound squat, a 235-pound bench press, and a 410-pound deadlift. So I at least at one point had 15lbs on Wolverine on the bench 😀

I have no time frame or goal period for this, so it’ll just be something I think I’ll work my way up to, as best I’m able.
