Also known as the home stretch.
It’s a beautiful sunny Friday out today and I took the day off from work. This is mostly because I had my latest surgeon check-in appointment this morning, and we’re marking it as the end of the 12 weeks recovery period from the surgery in January. Everyone involved was very happy with my progress.
I do have one final check-in scheduled in 6 weeks and change, and I am going to be doing 4 more physical therapy sessions between now and then, but we’re largely back to “normal”. This is to help further progress range of motion as we’re not there quite yet.
That said, I am no longer being asked to wear the splint that we molded back at the end of February. I am free to go about my day without it at all, including sleeping. The arm attachment era is officially over.
I am also now allowed to start working on strengthening my left arm and wrist again. In no way does this mean I’m going to be bench pressing my previous ranges any time in the immediate future, but I can start working up to things.
For starters, I’m mostly going to work in like the 10-15lbs, maaaaybe 20lbs if I feel like I can handle. As much as I want to come roaring back, need to take the baby steps first, and find my immediate comfort zone. Also any movement that’s going to put a lot of pressure on wrist bending will be on hold. So not going to be doing any wall balls or pushups just yet. However, overhead presses, lateral raises, bicep curls, and similar are on the list. Maybe even low intensity rowing, if I’m feeling a little crazy and also want to test effects on pulling.
A lot of this initially will be done on my own, as the personal trainer I work with is on maternity leave, but I hope to resume working with her in the coming months.
I’m ready to finally get 2025 kicked off with gym goals. Let’s do this.
