The 1000 pound club Update

As has been well documented, a lot of my gym and “fitness life” changed since I first posted about the 1000 pound club. I won’t go into that here, read the archives.

I did want to status update where I’m at present with the three required lifts.

As of yesterday at the time of this post’s publish date, I have now hit 205lb squat, by way of makeshift safety-bar squat. At Crunch Fitness they do not have a true safety-bar with attached handles. Thankfully, I have my “Beast Power Gear” lifting straps that I am able to treat as handles. I have been very happy with the results so far, while not getting painful with angles and long arms, and also not having to do front squats where the bar is resting on my upper forearms/throat. I suspect this one will continue to go up steadily as I work may way into it more.

My deadlift is presently at 315lb achieved in early July, and I am extremely happy with that given: wrist surgery. With a deadlift, you’re pulling with your hands and wrists and arms a lot. Not sure this will “shoot up” in weight as much as I think squats will, but we’ll take it as I can. I’d rather not injure my back and whatnot.

I’m reducing my “current weight” capabilities with the bench press to 175lb as this is another that’s heavily reliant on wrists, but this time in the push motion. As I am also doing workouts solo instead of with a trainer present, I am a little hesitant to try and go up in weight too much, too fast, out of fear of injury by way of bar falling on me. Will i ever get back to 250lbs, who knows. As a reminder, Hugh Jackman got his 1000 pound club membership with 235lbs. I’m looking forward to getting back to 200lb, regardless.
